It’s been a while… not unlike a crazy aunt, who lives in the attic, creeping in and out checking up on everyone from behind the shadows. I’ve found myself in a timewarp where everything is speeding by and once in a while I jump off, relax, take a photo to prove to myself that I’m OK, and then get sucked back into the spinning.

The boys, as high school juniors, and doing quite well both academically and athletically. Socially, they each have a girlfriend which is, believe it or not entirely new territory for all; (they being late bloomers like their mom).
Mr. R touched my blog reflex like a caring big brother… I’m compelled to check in.

Most likely because we live in an agricultural area, and have “Ag” banks, most of us are hanging in there, recession-wise. My dear friend and her husband, who are retired teachers, have lost half of their retirement savings and their son, a professional baseball player in Japan, has lost about half of his investments. Next door, my 80-year-old neighbor has cut off his cable and telephone and uses the internet for news, and his basic cell phone service.

I’ve been busy trying to fundraise for three school programs… those generous donors, who in the past were the lifeblood to our extracurricular programs, are struggling as well… yet, here in California, we are paying through the nose for that poor young, (and I believed disturbed), woman with the 14 children… Here in our community, with the highest welfare and teenage pregnancy rates, we have four Starbucks! I see young people in Expeditions driving through Starbucks and it just doesn’t compute… unless… could it be possible they’re Mexican Mafia? Where else is that kind of money coming from, especially in this area? Who knows those kinds of statistics…. every day I struggle to sort it out in my head… I must be missing something. Can one worry too much about such things?

See, this is probably why I don’t blog… I just Flickr through life. I am thankful for brilliant, young men and women, who are striving to sort it out and make it right. Believe it or not, there are many young people who are striving to make good life choices and who are responsible and trustworthy and want something more than just what they can get for themselves and who keep somewhat current with world events and who don’t watch the TV like The Simpsons… I will never give up hope.

Well now, that was an ugly rant…

Looks like it’s time for you to check in again! It’s been a long while. I’ve been gone myself, and don’t know how long I’ll be back for this time. But I miss your joyful spirit!
